With the 68th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons selected safety Dezmen Southward, and his impressive pro day may have had something to do with that selection.
According to the Green Bay Press Gazette, Southward – who didn’t participate in the NFL Scouting Combine because of injury – was outstanding during Wisconsin’s pro day on March 5. The 6 1/8 foot, 211 pound DB ran a 4.37-second 40-yard dash while adding a 42-inch vertical jump – numbers that outperformed all other safeties who took part in the same drills at the NFL Combine.
With those numbers, there may be some heavy defensive back competition later this summer.
